Keeping a Framed N.C. Wyeth Poster Clean for Years

Most damage to framed posters comes from good intentions. A damp cloth on glass, sunlight through a south window, a basement in summer. The routine that preserves a Wyeth poster is smaller and slower than most guides suggest.

The short answer

Dust the glass with a dry microfibre cloth every few weeks, and damp clean it only with water on a cloth, never sprayed directly. Keep the frame out of direct sun and away from humidity above roughly 60 percent. Every few years, check the backing and seals for warping or foxing.

The Cleaning Routine That Works

Start dry, always. A microfibre cloth lifted across the glass removes most dust without touching the surface. If the glass needs more, dampen the cloth with plain water and wipe gently, then dry with a second cloth. Never spray cleaner onto the frame. Liquid runs down the glass, seeps under the edge, and stains the paper inside. That single mistake causes more poster damage than any other.

The frame itself needs less than you think. A wooden moulding takes a barely damp cloth, followed immediately by a dry one. Metal frames can take the same treatment. Skip furniture polish entirely, since silicone sprays build up on the finish and attract dust. If your framed poster sits near a kitchen, clean it more often, because grease settles on glass and becomes hard to shift. The same gentle approach applies to a canvas edition, though canvas should be dusted dry only see how canvas editions are made.
