Yurtas

White yurtas cluster on a wind-scoured steppe, their round felt walls catching a cold mountain light. Nicholas Roerich sets the nomad dwellings low against a vast horizon, small human forms dwarfed by distance. Look at how the color is built: pale ochre domes and smoke-grey rims, a thin yellow flare along one yurtas entrance, the ground worked in layered tempera strokes of russet and slate. Snow ridges rise behind in bands of cobalt and chalk, flattened into the shallow, panel-like space Roerich favored across his Central Asian series. Quiet, spare, and architectural, it belongs in a study or a hallway where the eye can rest on open ground.
