Yport, Normandy

Yport, Normandy by Charles Conder shows a shingle beach under falling evening light, fishing boats hauled up on the pebbles, and chalk cliffs rising pale behind the row of seafront houses. The composition is built from quick, loaded strokes of oil paint. Wet sand carries reflections in rose and grey, masts lean at small angles against the sky, and figures move as dark dabs between hulls and water. Conder lets the Channel weather do the color work, so blues stay cool while the shore holds warmer ochres and pinks. A natural fit for a study or hallway, especially where daylight shifts through the day and the coastal palette can change with it.
