A snow-heavy church of the Nativity anchors the view, its tented roof and small dome rising over a white Yaroslavl winter. Roerich paints the scene with the quiet authority of someone who walked these riverbank streets. Deep teal and green shutters puncture the whitewashed walls, and snowdrifts mound against the base in thick, deliberate strokes of pale blue.
