Worpsweder Landscape with Red House

A red farmhouse crouches at the edge of open moor, low walls catching pale northern light. Worpsweder Landscape with Red House shows the flat country around Worpswede as Paula Modersohn-Becker saw it. Oil paint sits heavy on the surface, strokes of ochre, moss green and greyed violet stacked across the fields. Birch trunks punctuate the middle distance, the horizon runs low, and the clouded sky holds the weight. The house reads as one dense block of brick red against all that quiet ground. Earthy and unhurried, the palette settles easily into a study or reading nook, anywhere that favors landscape over ornament.
