Woodburning

Grain runs across the surface in waves, dark rings swelling and narrowing like breath. Woodburning by Arthur Segal turns a plank of timber into a study of rhythm itself. Browns deepen toward umber at each knot, then thin to pale straw along the straighter passages. Segal, the modernist who spent decades in Ascona, painted wood grain as pure pattern, coaxing oil paint to imitate scorched fiber so convincingly the eye hesitates. Every growth ring is drawn with deliberate, patient hatching. Hang it where quiet concentration lives: a study, a reading nook, a hallway that needs one calm, organic anchor.
