Wonsons Rocks and Ten Pound Island

Granite boulders shoulder into harbor water in Wonsons Rocks and Ten Pound Island, a coastal view John French Sloan built from rose stone, violet shadow, and the slap of tide. The rocks lie low and lumpy, pink-grey faces patched with orange lichen and olive weed. Beyond them the sea runs in short green strokes toward a dark hump on the horizon, under a sky scrubbed with fast cloud. Gulls thread the gap between. A stairway landing, a reading nook, or a seaside study would suit it; anywhere salt air and cold morning light feel close at hand.
