Winter (VII)

Snow bends every branch in Winter (VII), a forest scene by the Lithuanian symbolist Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis, where slender trunks rise pale against a white, weightless sky. Each tree stands thin and dark at its heart, every limb wrapped in heavy snow. Grey-blue shadow pools between the trunks while the drifts are brushed on thick, catching light along each curve. Nothing stirs. The whole wood holds its breath, silver and still. Set in a quiet study or a north-facing reading nook, it cools a room the way an open window in January does.
