Winter in The Forest

Bare birches cross a snow-filled clearing, their trunks catching rose light against the blue of late afternoon. This is Konstantin Yuon at his most quiet, a Russian landscape reduced to snow, trunk, and sky. The forest interior is built from cool whites laid over violet shadow, with patches of ochre underbrush breaking through the drifts. Branches read as thin dark calligraphy, drawn with the sure hand of a painter who knew Russian winter from decades of observation. A natural fit for a reading nook or hallway, where the hush of the scene can do its slow work each day.
