Windmill

A windmill crowns the rise, four sails caught mid-turn against a churning sky. Pyotr Konchalovsky gives the old machine real weight, building its bulk from loaded strokes of oil pigment. Ochre and raw sienna stack the tower body, each brushload standing proud of the surface. A dirt track curves up to the base, dabs of green mark scrub along the slope, and grey cloud drags overhead in broad wet passes. Rooms of timber and stone ask for a scene like this: a farmhouse kitchen, a stairway landing, a study with deep armchairs. The earthy palette settles quietly among such surroundings.
