Willows along the stream

Willows lean out over the current, their long fronds dragging across the water and snagging the light in loose, silvered strokes. Ivan Grohar paints the Slovenian streamside the way it actually feels on foot: damp grass, moving water, air that has not warmed yet. The trunks rise in grays and umbers, bark broken up with quick loaded brushwork, while the stream itself carries pale green and slate tones downstream in short horizontal pulls. Ferns and reed tufts crowd the near bank, and the far shore dissolves into a soft violet haze. Ideal for a study or reading nook where the quiet of running water belongs.
