Willow Herb, Buxstead

Willow herb rises on a slender stem, its narrow leaves and pale bloom held at the center of the sheet. Charles Rennie Mackintosh drew Willow Herb, Buxstead with the same discipline he gave to roses: each petal placed, nothing accidental. The pencil line stays cool and exact, the washes sit watery and restrained, greens thinning toward grey where the light falls. Pale pink petals drift above lance-shaped leaves, every vein traced with a sure, light hand. A study corner, a hallway, or a quiet reading nook suits its hush.
