Weg nach Kynwasser (Riesengebirge)

A footpath climbs out of Kynwasser toward the bare granite ridges of the Riesengebirge, hedged with dark spruce. Arthur Segal records the whole ascent in short, loaded strokes of paint. Village roofs in rust red and slate slant across the middle ground. Sunlight breaks into dabs of lemon and ochre along the track; shadows pool in violet and pine green. The brushwork stays visible everywhere, laid on thick, giving the mountainside a woven, almost tapestried surface. Set in a study or stairway landing, the cool air of the Giant Mountains quiets a room, one long breath of altitude among busier things.
