Vízparti Házak

Houses lean toward the water, their facades stacked in tilted planes of ochre, slate blue and rust. Vízparti Házak belongs to the waterside scenes Scheiber Hugó built from cubist geometry and fairground color. Look closely and the roofs fracture into angular facets, windows placed at odd angles like sails catching wind. Flat planes of muted olive and dusty orange sit beside deep blue water, the forms held together by dark contour lines and a surface handled with the dry, grainy texture of gouache or oil applied thin. A reading room or hallway with pale plaster walls gives these tilted houses room to breathe.
