Vision of the City

Towers and chimneys crowd the horizon in Vision of the City, a work by Mstislav Dobuzhinsky where architecture seems to breathe and lean of its own accord. Fine pen linework and layered wash give the skyline a gauzy, dreambound quality, as though the metropolis were recalled rather than observed. Smoke drifts upward in pale ribbons, facades tilt at uneasy angles, and crosshatched shadows pool between the buildings. Grey washes deepen into violet and sepia where the rooftops dissolve into haze. Suited to a study, a hallway of bookshelves, or any room given to long thinking about cities.
