Violets

Violets crowd a shallow bowl in this Heinrich Kuhn photograph, the blooms packed so tightly that purple petals and dark leaves fill nearly the whole frame. Soft light rolls across the flowers, lifting silver edges on some petals while others sink into near-black shadow. A few stems break loose from the cluster and lean over the rim, the focus dissolving just past them. It reads like a still life built from breath and blur rather than brushwork. A quiet corner of a bedroom or reading nook suits it well, where the deep violet can hold its own against plain walls.
