Gothic arcades and whitewashed college walls close around a cobbled courtyard in Vilno, rendered by Mstislav Dobuzhinsky with the tender eye he brought to every corner of the old city. Bare trees lean against mullioned windows. A lone figure crosses the flagstones, small beneath tiers of steep gables and a slender tower thread stitched into an overcast sky. The pen hatching is dense and patient, grey ink warmed by faint ochre washes, so the stone seems to hold centuries of student footsteps in its surface. Suited to a study, library wall, or a reading nook where quiet architecture belongs.
