Village Road in Autumn

A dirt road bends out of a French village, its ruts and wheel tracks painted in ochre and grey oil under a sky of quick scumbled cloud. Gustave Loiseau records the season at eye level, no figures, no event, just the village settling into October. Trees along the way hold rust and burnt sienna leaves over low stone walls, and rooftops behind them flicker between red tile and slate. His crosshatched brushwork, built up in short en plein air strokes, gives every hedge and gutter a shivering late year texture. It hangs well in a hallway, stair landing, or dining room where autumn color can carry the wall.
