Village Pond

Geese drift across still water while a plank bathhouse stands on stilts at the far bank. Pyotr Konchalovsky builds his Village pond out of broad, heavily loaded brushwork. Cloud reflections break apart where a paddle dips. Willows lean low, trunks worked in thick ochre strokes, and the muddy track to the shallows keeps its cart ruts and hoofprints. Dabs of cobalt sky flicker between leaves. A study or hallway with plain plaster walls gives the scene room to breathe, its greens reading deepest against limewash and unpainted wood.
