Village Church

A whitewashed village church rises at the center of Stefan Luchian's Village Church, its slender steeple drawn against a sky washed in soft gray and pale blue. Luchian paints the Romanian countryside with loose, confident strokes. Rooftops in rust red and burnt sienna cluster around the churchyard, bare trees thread dark branches through the composition, and the ground holds muted greens and earthy ochres. Light falls evenly, letting the small figures and humble architecture carry the quiet narrative of rural life.
