Kangchenjunga dominates the horizon in this Himalayan scene by Nicholas Roerich, its snow summits seen from the Turpindar ridge, the third highest mountain on earth closing the southern sky. Slabs of white and rose light build the great massif, shadowed violet where the glaciers fall away. Above it the sky reads as one flat field of deep cobalt, unbroken by cloud. Dark foothills anchor the foreground, and dry tempera handling keeps every snow edge crisp. A quiet study, a hallway with strong daylight, or a reading nook with deep shelves would give the cold mountain air of this scene room to breathe.
