The hilltop village of Eze clusters above the Mediterranean, painted by Winston Churchill in his view of Eze in the Alpes-Maritimes. Rooftops and battlements gather along the ridge while the sea spreads below in bands of blue. Ochre facades catch the sun against a sky brushed in pale ultramarine. Cypress shapes punctuate the slope, and quick strokes of terracotta and green describe gardens tumbling toward the coast. The brushwork is direct and confident, oil laid on in generous patches that give the rocks their weight.
