Vase with Flowers

Full roses and peonies spill over the rim of a fluted glass vessel in Vase with Flowers, a floral still life by the Romanian painter Ipolit Strambu. Petals open thick with paint. Crimson and blush blooms hold the foreground while olive leaves turn toward soft light from the left. Shadows settle into cool violet gray beneath the bouquet, and the glass catches one narrow highlight along its curve. A draped table edge anchors everything against a warm brown ground. Deep reds and ochres sit naturally beside dark wood and linen, which suits a dining room, a hallway, or a quiet reading corner.
