A sunlit hollow folds into the hillside in Vallon breton, Felix Vallotton reducing the countryside of Brittany to calm, deliberate shapes: grass slopes, clustered trees, a flat pale sky. The valley floor is built from layered bands of moss and olive, a light path slipping down between hedgerows toward a farmhouse with slate roof and whitewashed wall. Tree crowns sit like rounded weights along the ridge, their shadows pooling in the dip below.
