Valley floors open under a high Mexican sky, the road to Cuernavaca cutting a pale seam between volcanic slopes. Dr. Atl renders Valle de Mexico desde la carretera de Cuernavaca with the authority of a painter who climbed these ridges himself. Smoke rises from Popocatepetl in a gray column, drifting across bands of violet haze. Lavender shadow pools in the basin while ochre fields catch the last heat near the foreground ridge. The brushwork is broad and loaded, pushed in thick strokes that give the lava rock and cactus scrub a granular, almost geological surface. Hung in a study or stairwell, it draws the eye outward toward distance and altitude, rewarding long looks from across the room.
