Utca Éjjel

A night street unfolds in Utca Éjjel, one of Scheiber Hugó most atmospheric city scenes. Deep blues and violet shadow press the houses low while a scatter of window lights punctures the dark. Lamplight pools in ochre and warm gold along the pavement, throwing long reflections across the wet-looking road. Facades tilt and simplify under his modernist hand, edges softened into flat planes, chimneys and gables reduced to quiet geometry. The sky above the rooftops is a dense, unbroken navy that swallows every detail except the glow. It settles naturally into a dim hallway or a study lit only by a single lamp, where its nocturnal hush can do real work.
