Untitled

Snow summits glow rose against a deepening sky, their ridgelines sharp as cut stone. This untitled work from Nicholas Roerich carries his signature Himalayan vocabulary: tempera laid in flat, luminous planes of color. The lower slopes dissolve into bands of violet and cobalt, while the peaks themselves hold a pale, mineral whiteness that seems lit from within. Thin horizontal washes of blue deepen toward the horizon, and the mountain silhouettes stay crisp, unblended, almost geometric in their clean edges. His tempera technique gives every plane a chalky, fresco-like matte. A study wall, a quiet reading nook, or an entryway with cool northern light would let these high-altitude blues do their quiet work.
