Ukrainian Landscape

Sunlit fields stretch toward a band of low hills under a sweeping sky. Konstantin Yuon captures the open breadth of a Ukrainian landscape in this painting, generous and unhurried. Warm ochre ground gives way to patches of green pasture, and a line of dark poplars or slender trees breaks the horizon. Clouds drift in soft greys and whites, their shadows moving across the plain. Yuon paints with loose, assured brushwork, letting light do the describing while small rural details, houses and paths, anchor the vast space in daily life. Suited to a study or dining room where wide, calm scenery sets an open mood.
