Uglich. Church of Prince Dmitry

A slender white church rises over Uglich in this Nicholas Roerich view, its dome and small drums catching pale northern light. The Church of Prince Dmitry anchors the composition, set against a wide, hushed sky. Roerich paints the whitewashed walls with cool blue shadows, the onion dome glowing soft gold at its crown. Bare trees and low riverbank tones frame the building, his brushwork tight on the architecture and loose across the summer haze beyond. A quiet, devotional image suited to a study, a hallway, or a reading nook where Russian landscape painting can breathe.
