Twilight

Violet dusk floods a darkening valley in Twilight, where Felix Vallotton lets the last daylight drain out of the sky and leave the land in silhouette. Rose and ember bands stack across the upper register while a coal black treeline cuts the horizon flat, the oil pigment laid in smooth unbroken planes the way the Nabis favored. A pale moon, barely a thumbnail of white, hangs above the ridge. Hang it where lamplight takes over at evening, a study or hallway that faces west, and the colors keep their glow long after the window goes dark.
