Tufănele în Ulcică

Small wild roses gather in a modest clay jug, petals loosening at the edges. Tufănele în ulcică is Stefan Luchian at his most tender, a Romanian still life that finds grandeur in a handful of roadside blooms. The blooms lean every which way, some buds still tight, others shedding pink onto the table below. Brushwork stays loose and buttery, rose madder set against the warm terracotta of the jug and a muted olive backdrop. Thin stems cross in nervous X shapes, holding the whole arrangement upright. Suited to a sunlit breakfast nook, a hallway console, or beside a reading chair where quiet things belong.
