Trees at Mimizan

Trunks rise and lean across the picture plane, painted with the loose, confident brushwork of an amateur who painted for pleasure. Trees at Mimizan belongs to the quiet landscape studies Winston Churchill made in the southwest of France. Bands of green foliage sit over a sunlit ground, the paint laid on thickly in short directional strokes.
