Timgad (Temple)

Sunlit ruins of a Roman temple rise above the North African plain in Timgad, rendered by Violet Oakley in her mural studies of classical architecture. Broken columns stand against open sky. Corinthian capitals crown pale stone shafts, their fluting picked out in ochre and warm rose. Oakley models the masonry with firm crosshatching, letting deep shadow pool between fallen blocks and steps. The colonnade recedes toward a low horizon, its geometry softened by desert light. Suited to a library, study, or hallway where architectural subjects anchor the room, this vision of Timgad brings classical antiquity into close view.
