Tibet Stronghold (Potala)

Terraces of white masonry step up a bare ridge to the red palace block crowning them, all of it set against a vast indigo sky. Nicholas Roerich rendered the Potala stronghold of Tibet as sheer vertical mass. Cobalt shadow pools in the valley and drains the high snow to violet. Every window reads as a dark puncture in the whitewash, and the gilded roofline lays one thin gold line across all that blue. The tempera surface stays matte and chalky. A north-facing study or a dim entryway suits it, a room low on light where the thin air of the plateau can settle in.
