Tibet. Dzong

A Tibetan dzong commands the middle distance in this Nicholas Roerich composition, its massive white walls and tiered roofs set against the high Himalayan plateau. The fortress reads in cool blues and slate, brushed with Roerich broad, flat planes of tempera-like color. Snow ridges climb behind it in pale bands, while the dzong itself holds a warmer ochre shadow along its base. Every edge stays hard and clear, the way thin mountain air cuts detail into stone.
