Tibet. At Brahmaputra

The Brahmaputra cuts a cold silver band through the valley floor, and Roerich sets it there like a seam of mercury between brown slopes. Tibet. At Brahmaputra is a river landscape first, a meditation second. Look closely and the brushwork tells the story: short, dry strokes build the sun-baked ochre of the banks, while the water carries pale blue and violet reflections of peaks that hover far off in thinned, luminous tempera-like washes. A few tiny white shapes, tents or herd animals, give the vast terrain its scale. Suits a study or hallway with natural light, where the river glow can carry across the room.
