Thunersee mit Stockhornkette

The lake opens first, a wide sheet of alpine blue with the Stockhorn range strung along its far shore. Cuno Amiet paints Thunersee mit Stockhornkette as pure color: the water laid in broad horizontal strokes of turquoise and violet, the peaks built up with heavier impasto whites and cool greys where snow still clings. Above, the sky churns in thick swirls of pink and lilac, brushwork left rough and visible, light breaking through the cloud cover and scattering across the surface below. A Swiss mountain landscape reduced to pigment and gesture. It belongs in a bright study or hallway where daylight can meet those cold alpine tones.
