Thunersee

Lake water stretches flat and pale across the whole canvas in Thunersee by Cuno Amiet. Far shore rises in a low blue ridge, thin as a pencil line under Swiss light. Amiet loads the foreground with pigment. Violet shadow drifts across the shallows, ochre catches along the near bank, and a few dark hulls rest tilted on the water. Brushwork stays loose and open, each stroke laid in fast so the surface keeps the weather of the day it recorded. Sky and water nearly merge at the horizon, separated by nothing more than a change in pressure. A calm presence in a living room or lakeside reading corner, where its cool blues settle a wall without effort.
