The Wisla River, near Niepolomice

A grey-green Vistula glides past Niepolomice, its surface streaked with rose and pale ochre where the sky settles on the current. Jozef Mehoffer builds the scene from thin, confident strokes, holding the far bank in a violet haze. On the near shore, reeds and low grass catch the light in short dabs of olive and gold, while the water carries everything outward in long horizontal pulls of the brush. The horizon sits high, giving the river room to breathe. A quiet piece for a study or hallway, where its muted palette reads well across a day.
