The Window of the Poet

Sunlight floods a tall casement in The Window of the Poet by Pyotr Konchalovsky, holding the quiet minute when a dim room leans toward the bright garden pressing at the glass. Deep foliage presses against every pane, the garden beyond broken into broad slabs of emerald and sap green laid down in heavy oil impasto. Cool daylight from the glass meets warm umber shadow inside, and the window frame itself carries thick, deliberate strokes of lead white and grey. Made for a writing desk corner or a reading nook, it suits rooms where long afternoons pass with books open and the garden close at hand.
