Golden domes catch low sun above the Troitse-Sergiyev Monastery in this view by Konstantin Yuon, painted from the western approach where pilgrims once funnelled toward the gates. Onion domes and bell towers stack against a cold sky, their gilding warmed with ochre and amber. Below, small figures in dark coats cross a pale square, dwarfed by whitewashed walls and the deep blue shadows pooled between them. Yuon layers crisp architectural drawing over soft winter light, letting church silhouettes read almost like architecture drawn in frost.
