The Tree in the Field

A lone tree rises from flat open ground, its crown caught mid-motion in Somovs languid summer light. The Tree in the Field carries the Mir Iskusstva instinct for the poetic in the everyday. Watercolor handling shows in the washes: the foliage built from layered olive and sap green, touched with warm ochre where sun hits the upper leaves. Below, the field runs in loose strokes of dry gold and pale umber, the horizon kept low so the sky breathes over everything. Small dabs of shadow anchor the trunk and give the grass its texture. It sits naturally in a sunroom or a calm bedroom corner, anywhere that favors quiet pastoral mood over spectacle.
