The Terrace, Lympne

A stone terrace overlooks the Romney Marsh, painted in loose strokes of green and gold. The Terrace, Lympne shows Winston Churchill at his most relaxed, brush in hand, recording a favorite Kentish view from above the old castle ruins. Balustrades and sun-warmed paving lead the eye toward flat fields and a pale band of sea on the horizon. The sky rides high in soft blues, and low hedgerows stitch the middle distance together. Everything is handled quickly and affectionately, the way an amateur painter works when the light will not wait. Well suited to a study, hallway, or reading corner where landscape views feel at home.
