The Sower

A lone sower strides across freshly turned earth, one arm flinging grain in a wide arc while the plough rests behind him. The Sower is Ivan Grohar at his most commanding, rooted in rural Slovenia. Thick oil strokes build the furrows in umber and violet, and the sky behind burns with rose and slate as evening closes. The figure stands nearly silhouetted, seed scattering bright against dark soil, a pale mountain line low on the horizon. Set in a study, a dining room, or a hallway that faces west light, the image carries the weight and rhythm of harvest work into an ordinary day.
