The setting sun

The sun sinks low and the sky burns amber over a skyline of dark chimneys and industrial silhouettes. Konstantin Bogaevsky painted this as a farewell to daylight, and the farewell is unflinching. Look closely and the amber breaks into layers: a molten orange core dissolving upward into smoky rose, then a bruised violet band where the rooftops cut clean black against the last light. The brushwork in the sky is loose and hot, almost impasto near the sun itself, while the ground level stays dense and murky, smoke and steam drifting through the city streets below. Every gradation is earned. A study with warm lamplight would suit this well, the amber glow answering its own reflection, or a hallway that needs one strong horizontal image to carry it.
