The Seine at Port Marly

The Seine at Port Marly unrolls along a pale, rain-washed stretch of river, where moored barges sit heavy in the current and the towpath runs damp under a low sky. Gustave Loiseau builds the scene out of small, deliberate touches, each fleck of pigment doing quiet work. Slate greens and pewter greys carry the water, while rooftops and mast tips catch thin breaks of light. Willow shadow softens the far bank, and reflections wobble into the current in broken horizontal strokes. It belongs in a study or reading nook, somewhere the river can keep moving at its own unhurried pace.
