The Sea

Grey-green water breaks toward the shore in The Sea, a coastal study by Firmin Baes. Foam climbs the sand, and the horizon sits high, pressing the whole composition into movement. The palette runs from slate and pewter to pale celadon, the wet sand catching a thin band of light where the tide retreats. The handling reads soft and blended, in the manner of pastel, with hatching visible where darker waves cross the shallows. Everything is atmosphere and motion, no figures, no vessels, only water meeting land. It belongs in a hallway or seaside living room, anywhere that welcomes cool coastal light and quiet breadth.
