The Road in the Country

A pale dirt track curves through meadow grass toward a stand of slender birches, and the eye follows it the whole way. The Road in the Country by Konstantin Somov holds that quiet pull. Oil paint sits thin and silvery here, olive and sage greens breathing under a milky Russian summer sky. Wheel ruts score the dry earth.
