The River Pierce

A frozen river cuts straight through the heart of the composition, and Konstantin Yuon names the picture for that very act: The River Pierce. Water becomes a blade of light between snow-covered banks. Cold blues and white lead the palette, cut through by copper rooftops and dark tree line along the shore. The channel itself reads almost molten, a ribbon catching low sun while everything around it hardens into winter. Brushwork stays broad and unhurried, the sky weighted with pale cloud. Suited to a hallway or reading nook where the cold daylight of a Russian winter can carry across the room.
