Clear water slides over dark stones in The River Kiðá in Húsafellskógur, where Asgrimur Jonsson set the bright current of west Iceland against a stand of birch. Slim white trunks rise at close intervals, their bark broken with grey flecks, while low brush in sap green and burnt umber crowds the banks. The water runs shallow, tea brown over gravel, and thin sky glimmers through the leaf cover in small pale dabs.
